Market planning

Strong understanding and background in market planning and fares harmonisation across all transport modes, including calculation of fares yield using elasticity, Travelcard allocation, and a good knowledge of the railway product range including ticket conditions.

Relevant project experience in the rail sector includes:
  • Fares Evaluation Report for South Central in 2003 for negotiations with SRA over changes in subsidy/ premium as a result of the New Fares Regulation Regime (2003);
  • Advice to ATOC London Scheme on TOC pricing strategies for the In-Boundary Travelcard Season (1998 and 2000);
  • Fares Regulation Review for OPRAF (1998);
  • Advice to Chiltern Railways and South Eastern on the yield from different fares changes (1997-2002); and,
  • Business Analysis Manager for South Eastern in charge of all pricing strategy and new product development (1994-1997).
Relevant bus project experience includes:
  • Bristol Area Travelcard – commission to investigate the market for a multi-modal travelcard for the Greater Bristol area, including investigating the potential of the ticket to attract new public transport users and generate modal shift, and the potential extent of use of the new ticket by existing public transport users. Agreement was secured with stakeholders on research methodology, sample size, quotas and questionnaire design, and for planning the coverage of bus and train services for the fieldwork.
  • Norwich Park and Ride Business Plan, Norfolk CC – Assistance with the preparation of a business plan for expansion of Norwich Park and Ride from four to six sites, including work on SWOT analysis, assessment of alternative business strategies, market segmentation, pricing policy, and marketing strategy.
Concessionary Travel, Norfolk CC – Assessment of market potential for a young persons’ concessionary travelcard for all those in full time education as part of a review of current concessionary travel schemes available in Norfolk.
